HEB construction has been awarded the $135m contract to build the new Hamilton river bridge.
Hamilton City Council released new concept designs for the burnt orange coloured bridge, with a V-shaped pier, sitting outside the edge of the Waikato River.
Once complete, the bridge will connect Hillcrest to the new Peacocke suburb development.
Work is set to begin in October and is expected to be completed by 2023.
Hamilton Mayor, Paula Southgate, says the bridge will enable growth in the city’s south while supporting the Peacocke programme which is forecast to create six billion dollars to the city in the next 30 years.
“I’m very excited at the possibility that Peacocke will deliver in terms of homes, jobs and high environmental standards,” Southgate said.
The council expects up to 3750 homes to be built in the new Peacocke suburb over the next 10 years, providing homes for about 20,000 residents.
With many Kiwis returning home amid the Covid-19 outbreak, the development comes at a vital time for the region.
