Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins announced that most travellers coming into New Zealand who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to enter managed isolation.
New Zealand citizens will be able to travel from Australia without the requirement of quarantining after January 16 2022, providing they are fully vaccinated. However, the mandatory 7 day self isolation period will still be in place.
Travellers who are eligible, [New Zealand citizens who are fully vaccinated] can enter New Zealand from all other countries after February 13 2022.
Foreign travellers for other countries, who are fully vaccinated will be able to enter New Zealand from 30 April 2022.
International travel will be different, Hipkins said that New Zealand was in a position to commence moving back to normality.
Whilst travellers will be required to have a negative pre-departure test, be fully vaccinated, a declaration of full travel history. They will be tested again on arrival and at the end of self-isolation period.
“There will be more cases coming across the border, even amongst people who have been vaccinated,” said Hipkins. “Rapid antigen testing is going to increasingly play a more prominent role for our surveillance testing procedures.”
New Zealand would follow the rest of the world in the use of rapid antigen testing.
“Today’s announcement does not mean that MIQ as a system is not going to end any time soon. MIQ is intended to be a temporary measure and its current scale and the way it operates has served us incredibly well.”
