A private hospital in Hastings has opened a new $11-million day surgery complex.
Royston hospital officially opened the new building last week. The facility, which will be used mainly for orthopaedic surgeries, includes two operating theatres.
Evolution Healthcare, which owns Royston Hospital, chief executive Sue Channon said that the new surgery complex has been praised by surgeons.
“Our surgeons are saying … it is one of the nicest theatres to work in and the flow works really well for the patients and the surgeons.
“It is a beautifully designed theatre and it has everything one would expect in a new and modern operating complex,” Channon said.
Royston Hospital had six operating theatres before the opening of the new facility. The new theatres will provide more capacity.
The hospital has partnered with the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board to provide some public surgeries, due to long waiting times in the public system as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
