A person growing cannabis accidentally exposed their operation to the police after reporting a theft. The incident happened early Tuesday morning in Mahora, Hastings, when the resident called the police to report a masked man with a butcher’s knife stealing plants from their property.
The police quickly found the suspect, who had hidden something in a green waste bin. Upon inspection, the police discovered a large cannabis plant inside the bin. After taking the suspect into custody, the police returned to the resident’s home and found more cannabis plants. This led to a search warrant being issued and the discovery of several more cannabis plants, buds, and seeds both inside the house and in the backyard.
The resident faced further setbacks when the police confiscated the remaining plants, buds, and seeds. The police have now charged the resident with cultivating cannabis and possessing cannabis utensils.
The alleged thief, a 35-year-old man, has been charged with aggravated burglary and is due to appear in court later this month. The investigation is ongoing, but the police confirmed that the large cannabis plant will not see Christmas.
