Police in Auckland are working with Auckland Transport to improve safety on the 70 bus route. This route goes from Botany to the city center through Panmure. They have noted problems with some young passengers misbehaving.
Last month, police arrested a 45-year-old woman on the 70 bus after she assaulted someone, which they believe was a hate-related incident. Inspector Mark Miller, who is in charge of area safety, said police will not accept such bad behavior. He wants public transport to be safe for everyone.
Police have made two recent arrests related to issues on the 70 bus and another bus route in Auckland. If you see something that needs immediate police attention on a bus, call 111.
Auckland Transport said they are aware of ongoing issues on a small part of the 70 bus route. Stacey van der Putten from Auckland Transport mentioned that they are working with the police to ensure enough officers are present to help with the problems.
They are cooperating with police, other groups, and community leaders to solve these issues as they come up. Auckland Transport operates over 13,500 bus services each day, and they say that 99.9% of their passengers behave well.
Van der Putten reminded everyone to be kind to one another while using the buses and to always thank the bus driver.
