Kiwi band Zed has released their first album in 20 years, called “Future Memory.” Fans have been waiting a long time for this. Zed became known for their early 2000s rock sound with hits like “Renegade Fighter” and “Glorafilla.”
The band got back together in 2017 and has played many shows since. Nathan King, the lead vocalist, guitar player, and trumpeter, said writing new music felt natural for them. He mentioned, “We’re lucky that three of us write music. It’s in our blood, and we never really give that up.”
King noted that the band has become more relaxed over the years. He said, “We’re more tolerant of each other and self-aware, making our reconnection very rewarding.”
Now, the band members live in different parts of New Zealand. Drummer Adrian Palmer is in Christchurch, Ben Campbell is in Akaroa, Andy Lynch is in Matakana, and King is in Auckland. This makes writing music different from their earlier days.
King explained, “Before, if I got stuck on a verse or pre-chorus, I would try for weeks to find a chorus. Now, I share my ideas with the others, and they bring fresh perspectives. It’s exciting and often surprising.”
Ben Campbell added that the music industry has changed drastically since they started. He said, “The way we record, promote, release, and share music is completely different now.”
“Future Memory” will be available on Friday.
