First established in the 1930s, Whanganui Airport remains a vital and effective hub for aviation activity in the wider Whanganui region.
Located just 8km from the city centre, the airport consists of one sealed runway and four grass runways, a sealed apron, a large grassed apron/aircraft park, fuel services, a passenger terminal, and private maintenance facilities and hangars.

Passenger flights
Air Chathams flies from Whanganui to Auckland and return three times a day, Monday to Friday. During weekends, two flights to Auckland and one to Whanganui are available on Saturday, and on Sunday there are two flights into Whanganui and one to Auckland.

JARS Cafe – Airport Cafe
Cafe Jars’ hours are Monday to Friday, 6.00am to 11.00am and 3.30pm to 5.00pm. On Sundays the hours are 3.30pm to 5.00pm. Closed Saturdays. Hours will be reviewed in early 2023 to suit customers.
Parking
Free parking is available for up to 60 minutes adjacent to the terminal building. Long-term car parking can also be found next to the terminal building.
The long-term car park is fully fenced, and is secured and alarmed in the evening after the last flight, then reopened before the first flight in the morning. This car park is intended for use by passengers who require extra security and those expecting to be away for longer than the 60-minute period allowed in the casual parking zone.
The long-term parking fee is $10 per 24-hour period or part thereof.
