Whanganui has your swimming needs covered with its two public swimming pools – the indoor Splash Centre facility in Springvale Park and the outdoor Whanganui East Pool.
Both pools have:
- changing and shower rooms, toilets, viewing areas with seating, and a shop
- supervision of swimmers
- swimming and instructional opportunities such as learn to swim classes and aerobics
- swimming aids such as boards, floats and lane markers
- hot showers
Splash Centre
The extended Splash Centre opened in April 2008. The complex includes eight pools and has something for all the family, from lane swimming to a lazy river, spa pools, learners’ and toddlers’ pools – and two giant hydroslides! There is also an indoor rowing and fitness centre.

Whanganui East Pool
The Whanganui East Pool complex on Tinirau Street has a 33m outdoor pool, learner pool, hydroslide, diving board, BBQ, picnic facilities, lawn area and significant shade structures. The complex is open during the summer months with the final day being 1 April 2023.
