Madeleine Cooper is running 10km every day in March, which is Brain Injury Awareness Month, to raise funds for Brain Injury New Zealand. So far, she has completed 100km of her 310km goal. Madeleine has personally experienced brain injuries, having suffered multiple concussions that left her relearning how to read and unable to work for months.
Madeleine credits her recovery to the support services provided by organizations like Brain Injury NZ. She isn’t undertaking this challenge alone. On March 13, she was joined by the Auckland-based Grave Runners during their biweekly run called ‘The Exercism.’ This group emphasizes the mental health benefits of community running and is supporting Madeleine’s fundraising efforts.
Brain injuries occur every 15 minutes on average in New Zealand and can significantly alter lives. Brain Injury NZ depends on grants and donations to offer their support services. They are grateful for Madeleine’s efforts and encourage others to share her story, donate, or get involved with a local Brain Injury Association.
Individuals and businesses interested in matching donations from the fundraiser are also invited to contact Brain Injury NZ. You can follow Madeleine’s journey on Strava or Instagram at @madeleineelizabethalice, and donations can be made through her Givealittle page.
Madeleine is also offering prizes for those who run 5k dedicated to Brain Injury Awareness Month and share the link to the donation page. Prizes, donated by her favorite NZ brands, include vouchers and products from Williams Eatery, Porter James Sports, Norsewear, Artefact Interior, and Drink Almighty. To enter, participants need to tag Madeleine or send her a screenshot of their completed run. Madeleine thanks everyone in advance for their support and help in raising awareness.
