Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, announced today that Auckland will remain in Alert Level 3 until 11:59 pm on Sunday 30 August.
The current restrictions were reviewed by ministers today who assessed whether the community transmission had been contained.
Ardern said the government is sticking with the “stamp it out” strategy and that she acknowledged the sacrifice Aucklanders have had to make as they contain and trace the second outbreak.
As Auckland moves into Level 2 next week, mass gatherings will still be kept at a maximum of 10 and tangihanga and funerals will be kept to 50.
It was also announced that from Monday 31 August onwards, it will be compulsory to wear masks on all public transport.
