This year, Captain Cook and Marsden Wharves will host the Auckland Lantern Festival. The festival will fun from the 24th to February 28.
Auckland Domain previously hosted the lantern festival, however, was cancelled in 2020, due to Covid19. The annual event has become popular with both locals and visitors to the city.
The lantern festival is a Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first months in the lunar calendar. The celebration is highly significant in Chinese culture. People will go out to look at the moon, send up flying lanterns, fly bright drones, have a meal, and enjoy time together with family and friends in parks and natural areas.
