This year’s Christmas Carols on the Waterfront event in Tauranga Moana will feature a mix of harmonious melodies. The event, led by St Peters in the City, will take place on Sunday, December 3. Various Tauranga churches will unite to sing carols at the waterfront, boosting the holiday spirit.
This year’s event will be different from previous years, as it will include a multicultural element. Churches from the Filipino, Korean, Samoan, and Chinese communities in Tauranga will participate, according to Rev Enosa Auva’a, the minister of St Peters. Felicity Auva’a, the event’s musical director, explained that these communities will share the Christmas message in their own languages through songs and dances, while dressed in their cultural attire.
Nicola Fraser from Tauranga Baptist church stated that the event provides an opportunity to hear the original Christian story of Christmas in a simple and interactive way. She encouraged people to come together, regardless of their faith, to retell the birth story of one of the world’s major religions.
Felicity added that they love the Christmas season for the carols, special foods, presents, and gatherings with family, friends, and community. She invited everyone to bring their dinner and a blanket, and enjoy a beautiful evening for Christmas.
The Christmas Carols on the Waterfront event will take place at Edgewater Fan, Tauranga Waterfront, starting at 5.30pm on Sunday, December 3.
