The Christchurch Adventure Park is set to reopen next Friday after being closed for a month due to a fire in the Port Hills. The fire, which started on Valentine’s Day, burned through 650 hectares and reached part of the park.
The park’s manager, Anne Newman, confirmed that the chair lift and zipline cables have passed safety inspections and most of the downhill mountain bike trails were not affected. The team is currently busy preparing the park for reopening, which includes tidying up trails and reinstalling the chairs on the lift line.
“We are very lucky that we can reopen with almost all attractions available again,” Newman said. The reopening will be just in time for Easter and the April school holidays. Newman expressed her gratitude to the emergency response crews and her team for their hard work in making the reopening possible.
The fire in mid-February led to the cancellation of the Crankworx Summer Series, a mountain biking event. The park had previously been hit by a fire in 2017, which caused it to close for almost a year. However, the damage from the recent fire was not as severe.
