The Memorial Park Cenotaph in Tauranga has been restored by a team of stone sealing experts, just in time for this year’s Anzac Day celebrations. The monument, which was built in 1954, honors the World War II soldiers from the Bay of Plenty region.
Sonya Nielson from Elevate Sealing Solutions noticed that the cenotaph was dirty and dull, so she contacted Tauranga City Council. The council was eager to have the monument restored before Anzac Day, so the team started work in February.
Elevate Sealing Solutions, owned by Brett Noble, is a Tauranga-based business that specializes in cleaning and sealing new and existing stone structures. They work on council and commercial projects, as well as residential homes, across the entire North Island.
The team used a water-based sealer on the cenotaph, which is made of Hinuera stone. This sealer will repel water and prevent mould growth, keeping the monument clean for about five years. The company will also follow up in five years to carry out any necessary maintenance.
Since the restoration, people have commented that they had never noticed the cenotaph before due to its previously dark and mouldy appearance. The team hopes that more of the community will now be aware of the upgraded monument ahead of Anzac Day.
The Elevate Sealing Solutions team, which includes Brett, Casie and Sonya, travels from town to town restoring stone structures. They also specialize in porous products like decorative concrete surfaces, standard concrete and aggregate.
Brett, who has over 25 years of experience in the trade, has extensive knowledge of natural stone and its properties. He believes that their business is unique and is approved by the council. They also educate people on how to care for their stonework.
Next week, Elevate Sealing Solutions will work on the Memorial Park’s soundshell war memorial, which will also be cleaned and sealed in preparation for the Anzac Parade.
