The Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council is starting public discussions on its draft Long Term Plan for 2024-2034. This plan outlines the council’s strategic direction for the next decade, including what work will be done and how it will be funded.
Council Chairman Doug Leeder highlighted the importance of these decisions, as they will affect the community today and for future generations. He noted that with the rising cost of living in New Zealand, the council faces the challenge of continuing to provide important services while keeping rates affordable. He emphasized the need for community input before making any decisions.
The consultation period will be from March 8 to April 9, 2024. During this time, the council will hold various events and sessions to gather public feedback.
The council is also seeking opinions on how it can manage its finances sustainably in the future while maintaining service levels. Feedback is also requested on several policies including the Fees and Charges Policy, the Revenue and Financing Policy, the Development or Financial Contributions Policy, and the Rates Remissions Policies, which include one for all land and one for Māori freehold land.
