The 125th Mackenzie A&P Highland Show went off without a hitch and organisers estimate the number of people who came to the show was in par with previous years.
The show, considered the largest one-day event of its type in New Zealand, was held on Easter Monday in Fairlie and normally attracts between 10,000 and 15,000 people.
Mackenzie A&P Society secretary Jodi Payne said the weather played its part,
and “it was warm throughout the show”, despite an unattractive forecast.
“The weather forecast for the day might have put some people off from coming, but we still had a great turnout which was on par with the numbers during previous years,” she said.
“Everything went well, and we did not have any big issues on the day.
“We got some feedback from people online and during the day about how great the atmosphere was at the show and about how happy people were that the show was back on this year.”
Payne said the committee could not pinpoint one event during the show that was a highlight but said the show going ahead itself was a highlight.
The show this year played host to a shearing competition organised by Mackenzie Shears and the Royal Sheep Event (a prestigious event for sheep breeders).
The organising committee would be holding a debrief of the event in about a fortnight to discuss what could be improved.
Payne thanked everyone who came through the gates on Monday and said the committee would be looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.
