The Green Investment Fund is set to lend Whakatāne’s Eastland Generation up to $25 million. The money will help build a new 50-megawatt geothermal plant and upgrade the existing 25-megawatt Te Ahi O Maui plant.
Together, these plants can produce energy for over 13,000 homes. This boost will increase the Eastern Bay of Plenty region’s energy stability, benefiting both local industry and farming.
Eastland Generation is part of the Eastland Group. This company, based in Tai Rāwhiti, also runs Eastland Port and Gisborne Airport. The group is reinvesting money from a recent electricity business sale into energy production.
