The Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has announced that holiday travel should be smooth this year, thanks to several newly sealed roads. Contractors in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions have been working hard to prepare the roads for the holiday season.
The agency has assured that the new seal on the roads will have enough time to settle before holiday traffic begins. This will help ensure that all holiday deliveries are made on time.
Andrew Oakley, the Waikato system manager, has advised travelers to start planning their trips now. He expects traffic to be heavy from the weekend before Christmas until early in the New Year. He suggests checking vehicles and making sure everything needed for the journey is prepared. This includes ensuring caravans, boats, or trailers are properly attached before setting off.
Oakley also reminded travelers to respect any temporary traffic management, signage, and directions from road crews. He assured that the crews will work hard to minimize any delays.
Travelers are encouraged to use the NZTA Journey Planner for real-time updates on traffic conditions and delays.
In Tauranga, the Rangiuru Business Park Interchange project led by Quayside Properties Ltd continues. Material is being removed from the northern side of the site before Christmas. Traffic management will be in place from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, to ensure the safety of path users. Temporary barriers have been installed on both sides of the TELTR, and a temporary speed limit of 70km/h has been set. These measures will be in place until around June 2024.
