The Hope Home project, led by Fowler Homes and supported by New Zealand’s top youth mental health charity, I Am Hope, is moving forward. The walls and roofing have been installed, which is a significant step in the construction process. Jason McGirr, the Managing Director of Fowler Homes, said that this project is a symbol of hope for the community and shows their commitment to giving back.
Over 30 suppliers have generously contributed construction materials and resources to the project. These suppliers, providing everything from heating systems to cladding, have shown a remarkable level of support for youth mental health in New Zealand.
Jason McGirr, who used to be a police officer, is deeply aware of the mental health issues facing New Zealand. He said that The Hope Home project is not just about construction, but a passion project he shares with his wife and business partner, Jen.
Youth mental health in New Zealand is getting worse as the need for mental health services grows. Over the past ten years, I Am Hope has worked with over 300,000 children in schools across the country. Their Gumboot Friday free counselling service has seen a 500% increase in the last two years, currently supporting over 3400 free sessions each month.
I Am Hope founder Mike King praised the efforts of New Zealand businesses in donating a whole house to help children in need. He said The Hope Home is a symbol of hope and unity, showing how working together can make a big difference in mental health support.
The Hope Home is expected to be finished by October 2024 and will be sold at auction. The profits will be announced on Gumboot Friday, November 1, 2024.
