The Bay Conservation Alliance, a non-profit organization in the Bay of Plenty region, is at the core of local conservation efforts. They assist volunteers in caring for little blue penguins and protecting native forests. However, like all volunteer work, they need funds to continue their operations.
The Funding Network NZ’s Generosity Generator has selected the Bay Conservation Alliance for a crowdfunding campaign through Givealittle. This will provide the group with the necessary tools to raise funds successfully.
Michelle Elborn, the chief executive of Bay Conservation Alliance, says that there is a continuous need for funding in environmental initiatives. The organization acts as an umbrella charity, supporting various conservation groups in the region. They assist these groups in attracting and retaining volunteers, planning for predator control, and utilizing new technologies. They also organize training events for volunteers throughout the year.
Currently, the Bay Conservation Alliance supports 29 different community-led conservation groups. These groups cover a wide range of protective work. For example, the Western Bay Wildlife Trust focuses on little blue penguins and other species around Mauao and Moturiki/Leisure Island. Another group, the Aongatete Forest Project, is working to restore 500 hectares of native forest in the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park.
The organization aims to raise $10,000 to continue supporting these conservation projects. They have launched a Givealittle page for donations. This is their first attempt at crowdfunding, and they are encouraging people to donate if possible.
