A man has been charged with murdering a woman in West Auckland. He appeared in Waitākere District Court after police found her stabbed multiple times at a property on Brandon Street just after 11pm on Sunday. The woman was taken to the hospital but died shortly after.
Armed police secured the area overnight. The 33-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and is in custody with his name temporarily kept private. He is scheduled to appear in Auckland’s High Court later this month.
Residents near the crime scene expressed their shock. Fia, a neighbor, said he felt sad and scared, describing the street as usually quiet. He noted that while he did not know his neighbors well, their children played together.
Another resident, Jeremy Armstrong, said the neighborhood is typically safe and quiet, and it was surprising to hear about the murder.
Police confirmed they are not looking for any other suspects related to the incident. They will keep cordons in place and investigate the scene, but they do not believe there is ongoing danger to the public. The police offered their condolences and support to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
