Students of the Paterangi school excitedly returned to school on the first day of term three to discover a new playground awaiting them.
An opening ceremony was held for the new adventure playground on Monday, 20th July, attended by most of their 141 pupils.
When the original playground was shut down due to becoming unsafe, Paterangi community member, Janet Macky, generously donated towards the new playground.
With funding from the Ministry of Education, the new playground has been opened and will be a legacy to service the students and the Paterangi community.
“The playground is designed for senior children due to its height and challenging features, it was designed with input from our student council who consulted with the manufacturer, Playground Creations,” said Pāterangi School principal Mark Harrop.
“The playground also incorporates our school logo the wharenui into its design, the swings were added in by Janet’s request so that the younger students would have something that they could enjoy too.”
Janet opened the ceremony and was presented with flowers from the student council representatives and the students sung a waiata in her honour to thank her for her generous donation.
