Police in Auckland are investigating after a 12-year-old student was seriously injured at Somerville Intermediate School on August 8, 2024.
The boy’s father, Patrick Choo, said his son was attacked during lunch by another student. His son got cuts on his cheek and was bleeding. Choo explained that his son wears glasses, which might have pushed into his face when he was punched.
Choo does not understand why his son was attacked, stating there was “no reason” for the violence. He feels the school should communicate with the other student’s parents to gather more information about the incident, but has not received any response from the school yet.
After RNZ contacted him, Choo mentioned that the school’s principal reached out to set up a meeting.
Police are aware of the incident and responded shortly before 4 PM on Thursday. A police spokesperson noted that the victim had serious facial injuries and was taken to the hospital. They are still gathering details about what happened, and victim support services are being offered.
Somerville Intermediate has not commented on the situation.
