A restaurant in Tauranga, Castle 91, is once again offering a free Christmas lunch to the community. This is the fourth year the Indian restaurant, located on Cameron Rd, is hosting this event. The lunch will take place on Sunday, December 10, from noon to 2pm at the restaurant.
The manager of Castle 91, Mike Dhillion, explained that the event is for those who may not be able to afford Christmas presents or a festive meal. He mentioned that in previous years, the turnout has been increasing, with up to 40 people attending last time. The restaurant has the capacity to feed 80-90 people.
This year, the menu will include dishes like butter chicken, veggie korma, rice, and naan bread. There will also be vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Mike expressed his excitement about the event and shared a touching memory from a past lunch. A customer, who was homeless and jobless during Covid, attended one of the free lunches. After a few months, the man returned to the restaurant, well-dressed and happy, having found a job. He bought dinner to thank Mike for the free lunch he had received during his difficult time.
Mike encourages everyone to spread the word about the event to friends and family who might benefit from it. He believes that small acts of kindness can change people’s lives.
