The RNZ series “The Interview” won the Voyager Media Award for Best Innovation in Digital Storytelling. This award was given at the annual Voyager Media Awards event in Auckland, which celebrates the best journalism in New Zealand. The team behind “The Interview” includes Guyon Espiner, Farah Hancock, John Hartevelt, Cole Eastham-Farrelly, and Hingyi Khong. They analyzed nine months of interviews with the Labour and National leaders to understand their priorities and obsessions. The judges praised the entry for its innovative use of data and multimedia.
In addition, Ella Stewart, a longform journalist, won the award for Best Up and Coming Journalist. The judges were impressed by her compelling storytelling, diverse body of work, and in-depth analysis. They also praised her for including a wide range of voices in her work.
Eloise Gibson, RNZ’s climate change correspondent, won the award for Business Journalist of the Year. She was recognized for her work with RNZ and her former employer, Stuff.
RNZ had seven finalists in total across all award categories. Other winners included TVNZ’s Fair Go for Best Editorial Campaign or Project, and Hawkes Bay Today for Newspaper of the Year.
