Support for the coalition Government is stable, according to a new political poll. The 1News Verian Poll shows that the National Party, ACT, and NZ First could keep their power in the House. This means National would have 49 seats, ACT 8 seats, and NZ First 7 seats, totaling 64 seats which is enough to govern.
In contrast, Labour would have 38 seats, the Greens 14 seats, and Te Pāti Māori 6 seats, totaling only 58 seats.
For preferred Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon leads with 28%, followed by Chris Hipkins at 18%, Chlöe Swarbrick at 7%, and Winston Peters at 5%. This poll was conducted from August 10 to 14 and included 1001 participants.
In the last poll from June, National was at 38% and Labour at 29%. A July poll from Labour’s pollster showed that NZ First is necessary for National and ACT to form a government if these results happen in a real election.
The latest poll shows National support at 36%, which is up by 2%, while Labour is at 31%, down by 1% compared to June.
