To celebrate Wellington City Council’s relationship with Te Papa, Wellington City residents are eligible for free entry into the Surrealist Art exhibition at Te Papa on both days.
The free days will take place between 10am-7pm with the exhibition having a timed entry. The first session starts at 10am, and the last is at 6pm (closing at 7pm).
Tickets are only available at Ticketek. Only two free tickets per person.
COVID Alert level restrictions will be in place so will reduce the number of visitors in the exhibition space significantly. Restrictions will be managed by timed ticketed entries and with viewing time limited to one hour from your entry time.
In the past, free days have been extremely popular, and entry tickets go fast – so get in early.
Who is eligible?
The event is open to Wellington City residents to acknowledge Council’s support of Te Papa. Residents living in rental properties are also eligible for free entry. Hutt and Porirua residents are not eligible for a free ticket as they do not pay their rates to the Wellington City Council. Check out this map (PDF 340KB) for all the ward boundaries.
Where can I get tickets from?
Tickets can only be booked through Ticketek and are available now. Printouts or QR codes redeemed at Te Papa on the day. The exhibition is located on Level 4.

How long does each session last?
Sessions will run for 1 hour maximum. The first session will be at 10am and the last will start at 6pm.
