Air New Zealand and investigators are looking into why a plane had flames and smoke during its landing at Wellington Airport on Sunday. The plane was arriving from Christchurch when it faced engine problems. The pilot declared a mayday but landed safely.
Aviation expert Irene King said she does not think there was a real engine fire. She explained that flames can occur when engines shut down, but pilots are trained to handle these situations. Planes can also fly with one engine if needed.
King emphasized that it’s important to find out why the issue happened. Investigators from the Transport Accident Investigation Commission and Air New Zealand will focus on understanding the cause quickly.
