Hakarimata Scenic Reserve
The Hakarimata Scenic Reserve is a much-loved attraction for locals and visitors, carefully maintained and co-managed by Waikato District Council and the Department of Conservation (DOC) to keep pace with its increasing popularity.
Located in Ngāruawāhia, the Hakarimata Scenic Reserve is often referred to as the ‘Hakarimatas’ or ‘Haks’ for short.The main track starts with a fairly relaxed walk through lush bush, and steadily increases to begin a steep 335 metre climb.
With a total of 1,349 steps to reach the summit, you can expect extraordinary views out towards the coast, across the Waikato Basin and even to Mt Ruapehu on a clear day.
