The Ministry of Health announced that seven new community cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Waikato Region today.
This brings the total number of cases to 52, with 7 people fully recovered.
In its statement the MoH advised that all seven cases are linked to known cases.
Investigations are continuing to determine the links of two cases reported on Wednesday last week (October 13) and two cases reported on Sunday (October 17), the ministry said.
According to Waipa District Council, Te Awamutu has six confirmed cases.
“We need to ensure anyone who needs it, gets tested. Even if you have just a runny nose, get tested. It is imperative we stamp out Covid-19 in our community,” urged Waipā deputy mayor Liz Stolwyk.
The ministry also said Waikato DHB is continuing to carry out region-wide testing to rule out any undetected community spread of Covid-19, with around 3370 swabs taken across the region on Monday.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said that testing was “very important” while the Waikato remained in alert level 3, “to help inform our advice and the decisions later in the week about the ongoing status of the Waikato”.
Testing sites are open in Hamilton, Kihikihi, Whatawhata and also at the Te Wawmutu Events Centre.
