The Government has announced plans to make teaching methods for maths, reading, and writing the same across all schools. Education Minister Jan Tinetti said this change ensures that all students, no matter which school they attend, receive the same education.
The current curriculum varies in teaching core subjects, causing differences between schools. The new rules will clearly state what teachers must teach at each school year.
Teachers will get support, training, and materials to bring in these changes. Additionally, a new requirement in maths and reading skills will be introduced for secondary schools. This means that students will have key skills in these subjects when they leave school. This will help them in jobs and further education.
The Government will also introduce ‘learning progress steps’. This will let teachers and parents see how a child is doing in school.
The new teaching methods for English, maths, and statistics will start in 2025. By 2026, all schools must follow these rules.
Tinetti said these changes show the Government’s commitment to making sure every child has strong skills in maths, reading, and writing when they leave school.
