Students from Christchurch Boys’ High School will no longer attend the school after a video surfaced showing a man being assaulted and forced to eat pet food outside a McDonald’s. The video, posted last Tuesday, shows a group of boys attacking a man on Riccarton Rd. The man is seen being punched and kicked, while one of the attackers wears a school uniform.
Headmaster Nic Hill announced on Friday that at least four students are expelled due to the investigation and disciplinary actions. The students come from different year levels. Hill emphasized that this was not vigilante justice. He said, “There’s no moral conviction to what they’re doing.” He believes the attackers seek attention on social media, not justice.
Hill also confirmed that the police have contacted the victim. He stated, “There’s no excuse or justification for any of this,” and that they are taking the incident seriously, involving police and informing parents.
Police are investigating the situation and have not yet made any arrests. They noted that a local high school is helping with their inquiries and that several people involved have been identified. The victim is receiving support.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said they are aware of the incident and are cooperating with the police and the local school during the investigation.
