Housing for older people

The Hastings District Council offers nine senior housing complexes located across the district. Seven of these complexes are located in Hastings, with one complex located in both Flaxmere and Havelock North. The aim is to provide affordable and comfortable homes for older residents, with easy access to local services. Each complex has a maintenance programme, allowing urgent matters to be reported 24/7. All complexes are located on a bus route, and the units are all one bedroom with larger double units available for couples. Each unit has an external storage shed or cupboard, and residents are welcome to grow their own flowers and vegetables. No dogs are allowed, but consultation with the Housing Officers permits a cat, fish or bird. The Council’s Senior housing team prioritizes the comfort and independence of their residents, and each complex has its unique feature to make residents feel at home, such as being close to the local shopping centre, library, and parks.
