Whakatāne District Council manages and maintains the water network that supplies water to homes and businesses in most parts of the District. Whakatāne residents are connected to the various water supply schemes and use about 4.45 million cubic metres of water annually – that’s about 350 litres per person each day.
Water Rates
The rates for water by meter are separately assessed. Depending on the supply area, meters are read and invoiced on either a three-monthly or six-monthly cycle.
Rates for water consumption measured by meter may include a supply/connection charge as applicable. For supply areas with metered water, the rate per cubic metre and supply/connection charge are as follows.
The “per connection” charge below covers infrastructure, including pipes, extracting water from bores and rivers, maintaining reservoirs and pumps across the District, and making sure the water is drinkable. This charge is only 40% of the target activity across the District.
The “rates” charge below is a consumption charge covering delivery of water to the household/property, administration, invoicing, reading meters, the meters themselves, and meter maintenance.
