Investing in the Eastern Bay

The region has experienced healthy economic growth over the past few years.

Since 2019 there has been considerable investment in the aquaculture, horticulture, tourism, retail, logistics and manufacturing sectors. Inward investment is both public, funded through the government’s “Provincial Growth Fund,” and private. The region welcomes foreign investment, particularly into processing, manufacturing and tourism, with the largest sources of Foreign Direct Investment coming from China, Japan, Australia and South Korea

The Eastern Bay of Plenty is an essential contributor to national exports. The largest exporting sectors are horticulture, mostly kiwifruit, timber and dairy. Honey, paper and tissue products are also significant exports. There are many boutique exporters, including boats, food and beverages, health and beauty products and software.
