It is now possible to walk the full length of the Abel Tasman Coast Track after significant work was done to repair damage caused by heavy rain in August.
Department of Conservation (DOC) said the first section of the track from Mārahau to Anchorage has reopened, along with the section from Tonga Quarry to Onetahuti.
The only section that is currently closed is the high tide track between Anchorage and Torrent Bay, however, a low tide track is available.
A new high tide route is being made after two large slips damaged the existing track. Construction equipment was flown in by helicopter to complete the work. The new track is expected to be finished in the next two weeks.
The 60-km Abel Tasman Coast Track is one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. The entire track can be walked in three to five days.
