Web-based comics from Korea and New Zealand have been nominated in the Best Webcomic section of this year’s Eisner Awards.
The Eisner Awards, or Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards in full, are regarded as the comic industry’s equivalent of the Academy Awards. The Korean webcomic, “Navillera: Like a Butterfly,” by Hun and Jimmy, is about a friendship between a 70-year-old retired mailman and a young man in his 20s that forms through ballet. The nominee from New Zealand, “Lore Olympus”, by Rachel Smythe, is a modern retelling of the relationship between the Greek goddess Persephone and the Greek god Hades.
There are a total of five nominees in the Best Webcomic category. The Eisner Award trophies will be presented in a gala awards ceremony to be held during Comic-Con on the evening of 22nd July 2022.
