“캣츠”는 스펙터클을 즐기는 사람들에게 어필할 수 있는 뮤지컬입니다.전에 본 사람에게는 향수를 불러일으키고 처음 보는 사람에게는 즐거움을 선사합니다.1982년에 첫 선을 보인 이 쇼는 노래와 춤 넘버에 초점을 맞췄다는 점에서 당시로서는 획기적인 공연이었습니다.런던의 웨스트 엔드에서 20년 동안 공연되었으며, 지금도 세계에서 가장 사랑받는 뮤지컬로 손꼽히고 있습니다.

이 뮤지컬은 T.S. 엘리엇의 1939년 시집 ‘올드 포섬의 실용 고양이 책’을 바탕으로 제작되었습니다.전통적인 서사는 부족하지만, 뮤지컬은 젤리클이라는 고양이 부족과 그들이 어떤 고양이가 ‘헤비사이드 레이어’로 올라가 새로운 삶으로 돌아올지 결정하는 밤의 이야기를 담고 있습니다.

이 쇼의 주요 장면 중 하나는 다른 고양이들에게 거부당한 나이든 고양이 그리자벨라에 관한 이야기입니다.그리자벨라의 솔로곡 “기억”은 그녀가 어린 시절을 회상하는 이 쇼의 주요 주요 줄거리입니다.현지 교사인 에이미 르윈은 감성적인 깊이와 아름다움으로 그리자벨라를 연기했습니다.

토니 헨더슨의 지휘 아래 뮤지컬의 속도는 흠잡을 데가 없었습니다.음악 감독이자 지휘자인 고바야시 히로 (Hiro Kobayashi) 가 이끄는 16인조 라이브 오케스트라는 풍성하고 역동적인 반주를 선사하며 무대 위 액션을 완벽하게 보완했습니다.

결론적으로 베이코트 극장에서 열린 “CATS the Musical” 오프닝 나이트는 대성공을 거두었습니다.“CATS”의 오랜 팬이든, 처음 경험하는 사람이든, 이 작품을 놓쳐서는 안 될 작품입니다.“캣츠 더 뮤지컬”이 6월 15일부터 22일까지 베이코트에서 열립니다.
