People in Tauranga are braving the cold to donate to the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal. This fundraiser is the biggest annual event for the Salvation Army, and all the money raised goes towards helping the most urgent needs in local communities.
The Red Shield Appeal has been around since 1964. Its logo, known worldwide, represents the Salvation Army’s commitment to helping those in need. Jan Tinetti, a local MP, is also helping with the collection. She praises the Salvation Army for their unwavering support to people in all circumstances.
The Salvation Army operates several sites around Tauranga, encouraging people to donate. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Red Shield New Zealand. The funds raised support communities in various ways, from providing food and clothing to advocacy and addiction services.
Ian Bateman, a volunteer at the Salvation Army, shared his experiences working in courts and prisons in Tauranga. He helped provide clothing for prisoners and offered support to those in distress. He also assisted a man through an addiction program, who is now a factory supervisor, married, and has two children.
Jan Tinetti added that the Salvation Army is excellent at providing comprehensive support to people in need, giving them hope and walking alongside them. Ian Bateman thanked the public for their generous donations.
