A person driving a black SUV died after hitting the back of a truck and then being hit by another car when they stepped out of their vehicle. The accident happened on the Waikato Expressway near Hampton Downs on a rainy Friday. Police are grateful to the public who tried to help, including those who performed CPR on the victim.
The SUV was heading north when it hit a truck also going in the same direction. After the collision, one of the SUV’s passengers got out and was hit by a car in the opposite lane. Despite efforts to save them, the person died at the scene.
On Sunday, the police asked anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward. They believe witnesses could provide important information for their investigation. They are especially interested in any dash-cam footage of the incident.
Sergeant Steven Jones urged anyone with information to contact the police by calling 105 or going online to https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105 and using the ‘Update Report’ function. If anyone has video footage, they can provide an email address and the police will send a link to upload the video safely.
