New Zealand’s parliament will return under lockdown, but against the wishes of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Ardern suspended the parliament last week, amid fears of spreading Covid19. However, after calls from the opposition party, parliament will resume this week.
National party leader Judith Collins, who has travelled from Auckland – the epicentre of the outbreak – insists its the right thing to do to keep Ardern’s government accountable.
The Greens and the Māori Party are boycotting, labelling it unsafe and reckless given the opportunity to convene a virtual sitting.
When the House does sit at 2pm for question time, just a handful of MPs from Labour and National and minor party ACT will be in the chamber.
