The New Zealand government has presented two million NZD to Vietnam to support its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The aid, which came from New Zealand’s Covid-19 Response fund, was presented at a ceremony in Hanoi last month. One million NZD is intended for the purchase of medical equipment, which will be provided by UNICEF Vietnam, and one million NZD is for community-level economic recovery, which will be coordinated by CARE International and Oxfam in Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu said that he was very appreciative of the fund. He added that Vietnam and New Zealand have seen increasingly good relations in several areas, especially in development, education, poverty alleviation and the empowerment of women.
He said the Government and Foreign Ministry of Vietnam are willing to cooperate with the New Zealand Embassy and international organisations to effectively implement the project.
