Where to find jobs
Jobs that are available will vary from region to region. You will need to do some digging and research to find out what are available within an area you are willing to travel to. So where can you look for jobs?
The traditional job market
Probably the most popular way to find out about job opportunities that our available in New Zealand is to look through the traditional job market. You can do this by:
- researching vacancies advertised on the internet, social media, or in newspapers
- approaching recruitment agencies to see what work is available.
This is how most job hunters prefer to find jobs, however in reality only around 30% of positions are actually filled this way.
Connections and networking
Networking is really important if you want to be able to find job opportunities that you might have not discovered through the traditional way. Using your and your employer’s connections can mean that you hear of new job opportunities first and discover these roles through word of mouth instead of through advertising. Finding jobs this way actually makes it more likely that you will be successful as you will either know the job hunters or will be recommended to them which is a positive from the get go. Around 70% of jobs are filled using this method.
Networking can be done at work, through friends or through a more digital community. Seek out opportunities to meet new people, specifically in the area that you want to go into.
