The South Canterbury Outstanding Festival of Food (Scoff) will start on Friday. This year, 53 local eateries, including cafes, bakeries, and restaurants, are participating, which is an increase from 46 last year. The 10-day event, now in its fourth year, showcases dishes that celebrate the area’s local food suppliers.
Venture Timaru’s Di Hay mentioned the growing excitement within the community, noting that many are planning visits to specific eateries because of special dishes they saw on social media. The festival aims to support local businesses and provide enjoyment for residents and visitors.
Among the participants are Bhupinder Kaur and Goldy Singh, owners of the recently opened Turkish Kebab and Grill on Evans St in Timaru. They also own the Cappadocia Turkish Kebab and Grill on Stafford St. Their new restaurant offers a spicy beef adana for the festival, while their original location presents baklava.
Kaur, originally from India, has been in New Zealand for a decade. She and her husband opened their first restaurant in 2017, aiming to provide fresh and healthy food options. Despite challenges like Covid-19, they have remained optimistic about their ventures.
