A fire broke out at the CareVets cattery in Kilbirnie, Wellington, late Saturday night. The owner, Nick Cooper, confirmed that two cats are still missing but four cats escaped the building. Cooper reported that humane traps are set around the clinic to find the two missing cats. He shared that they have already caught two of the four escaped cats.
All cat owners were contacted, except one. Fire and Emergency officials said the cattery was severely damaged. They noted that there was another fire at this building three years ago, which was caused by a cigarette that ignited some debris.
Cooper explained that the previous fire was started by a tenant who discarded a lit cigarette near some plants below their deck. The cattery has been in the building for about 31 years. He praised his team for their hard work during the fire and afterwards, stating that they were dedicated and supportive during this difficult time.
