지난해 12월 마감된 3개월 동안 소비자 물가가 1.4% 오르면서 30년 만에 최고치 인플레이션을 기록했다.
부동산, 운동, 건축, 여가 용품의 급상승은 예상을 갓 웃돌았다.
인플레이션 압력은 광범위한 수준이었는데, Stats NZ가 지표로 사용하는 11개 가격 그룹 중 8개가 지난 분기 동안 상승했고, 신축, 임대료, 세금, 공공요금 등 주택 관련 비용이 가장 강하게 상승했으며, 이는 보다 저렴한 식품 부문에 의해 부분적으로 상쇄됐다.
Stats NZ의 소비자 물가 매니저인 Aaron Beck은 “건설사들이 공급망 문제와 인건비 상승, 수요 증가 등을 경험하면서 신규 주택 건설 비용이 상승하고 있다”고 말했다.
주택 소유 가격은 지난 분기 동안 4.6%, 작년 한 해 동안 15.7% 상승했다.
한편 다른 부문의 가격도 급등했다. 운송 부문은 연료, 중고차 가격, 대중 교통 등에 의해 5.4% 상승했고, 의류/신발뿐만 아니라 컴퓨터/휴대폰 가격도 상승했다.
연간 이율은 1990년 중반 이후 가장 높은 수치다.
자료에 따르면 비무역 부문인 국내 인플레이션은 아주 강하게 올랐는데 1분기 동안 1.5%, 전년 대비 5.3% 상승했다. 연료와 같이 무역 부문의 수입 인플레이션은 해당 분기에 1.3%, 연간 6.9% 상승했다.
한 경제학자는 이 자료를 통해 국내 인플레이션이 확실한 핵심임을 알 수 있으며, 단순히 일시적인 문제가 아님을 알 수 있다고 말했다.
ASB 수석 경제학자 Mark Smith는 “물가상승률 상승 전선이 완화되기 어려울 정도로 확대되고 있으며 2023년에도 연간 CPI 인플레이션이 3%를 훨씬 웃돌 것으로 예상한다”고 전했다.
이 수치의 강세로 인해 중앙은행 기준 금리(OCR) 상승을 유도할 것으로 예상되고 있다.
Smith씨는 “지속적으로 높은 인플레이션에 더해 유난히 긴축된 노동시장 배경과 전망은 OCR의 빠른 인상과 높은 OCR 수치를 경고한다”고 말했다.
그는 현재 0.75%에 머물고 있는 현금 금리가 연말까지 2%에 도달할 것으로 예상한다고 말했다.
Jacinda Ardern 총리는 물가상승률이 세계 정세와 매우 비슷하다고 밝혔는데, 미국의 경우 뉴질랜드보다 훨씬 더 높다. 국제유가와 국제긴장이 국제유가에 영향을 미쳤다고 덧붙이면서 “뉴질랜드만 인플레이션이 높은 건 아니다”고 전했다.
