Air New Zealand is urging passengers to respect their carry-on luggage rules for the benefit of all travelers. Kate Boyer, a representative of Air New Zealand, stated that while most passengers adhere to the luggage limits, some push the boundaries of size and weight. She emphasized the importance of knowing the policy and staying within those limits.
Boyer also highlighted the issue of passengers trying to bring too many items on board. She said, “We ask that it’s one piece to put in the overhead and one personal item that you can put underneath. If you’ve got three or four bags and you’ve done a bit of shopping, you will need to consolidate it.”
She added that the key to avoiding this problem is to be aware of the luggage limits before arriving at the airport. This helps prevent boarding or disembarking delays and ensures that everyone has enough space on board.
On domestic flights, passengers are allowed to carry one small bag and one personal item with a total weight limit of 7kg. The same weight limit applies to international economy passengers, while business or premium economy passengers can carry up to 14kg of cabin baggage. The size of a carry-on bag is determined by adding its length, width, and height, which should not exceed 118cm in total.
Boyer also mentioned that Air New Zealand offers passengers the option to travel without checking in any luggage, especially for short trips. However, she stressed the importance of staying within the airline’s policy limits.
Last month, Air New Zealand increased fares on some domestic routes, with plans for further hikes on other routes. The airline’s CEO, Greg Foran, also mentioned considering ancillary costs, such as charges for extra bags or pets.
In related news, aviation industry commentator Irene King predicted that international flights could become more expensive in 2024. This follows Hawaiian Airlines’ decision to suspend its services in New Zealand from April to November this year due to lack of profitability.
