셰인 존스 (Shane Jones) 뉴질랜드 제1부 장관은 처음에는 취임 선서에 문제가 없었지만 나중에는 향후 “연극적 행동”이 일어날 가능성에 대해 우려를 표명했다.그는 브라운리 의장에게 편지를 써서 하원에서의 예의와 행동에 대한 기대치를 분명히 밝히라고 요청했습니다.

뉴질랜드 퍼스트 (New Zealand First) 대표인 윈스턴 피터스 (Winston Peters) 는 테 파티 마오리족이 선서를 하는 태도로 의회를 무시하는 태도를 보였다고 비난했다.그는 자신들도 다른 모든 사람들과 같은 절차를 밟아야 한다고 주장했다.

테파티마오리족의 공동 지도자인 라위리 와이티티는 자신들이 ‘찰스’를 지칭하는 단어가 그들의 방언에서 흔히 쓰이는 용어라고 말하며 자신들의 접근법을 옹호했다.당의 또 다른 공동 지도자인 데비 응가레와-패커 (Debbie Ngarewa-Packer) 는 존스가 자신들의 행동에 지나치게 집중하고 있다고 주장했다.

크리스토퍼 룩슨 총리는 이 문제에 대해서는 언급하지 않고 의장과 하원을 위한 결정이라고 말했습니다.
