배송 업체, 택배 물량 급증으로 배송 지연 경고

크리스마스까지 쇼핑일이 35일밖에 남지 않은 상황에서 연휴 시즌을 맞아 고객들이 주문을 서두르고 있다. 이에 따라 소포 배송은 Covid-19 이전 기간에 비해 100% 증가했다.
마스터카드가 실시한 새로운 설문조사에 따르면 45%의 소비자들이 여전히 매장에서 쇼핑을 하고 싶어했으며, 이들 중 절반 가량은 12월까지 기다린 뒤 쇼핑 거리로 나온 것으로 보고있다.
그동안 많은 소비자들이 온라인으로 쇼핑하면서 일부 택배서비스 사업체들은 자신들이 감당할 수 있는 것보다 더 많은 배송을 해왔다.
이에 따른 부작용으로 아라멕스의 고객 서비스 라인으로 걸려오는 연결이 되지 않는 등 소비자들이 택배 픽업이 불가능한 경우도 발생하고 있다.
RNZ 또한 헬프 라인과 아라멕스의 회사 본사와 연락하는 데 실패했다.
NZ Post은 밀린 배송을 따라 잡기 위해 고군분투하고 있는 가운데 여전히 픽업 서비스를 제공하고 있다.
NZ포스트 홈페이지에는 “해밀턴에서 최대 5일, 오클랜드에서 4일, 뉴질랜드에서 1일(영업일 기준)의 배송이 지연될 것으로 예상해달라”며 고객들이 문의를 하기 전에 먼저 기다려 주길 당부하고 있다.
“오클랜드나 해밀턴의 경우, 택배 배송 지연이 영업일 기준 10일, 나머지 뉴질랜드 전역에서 5일 이상이 되지 않았다면 전화하지 말아달라”고 전했다.
Freightways 업체는 보통 개인 택배보다 기업 간 배송을 더 많이 하는 기업인데, 상업적 배송에 있어서도 크리스마스 연휴 전에 비해 훨씬 바빴다고 말했다.
Freightway의 최고 경영자인 Mark Troughear는 Covid-19 이후 집으로 배송하는 고객들이 100% 증가했다고 밝혔다.
“기존 고객뿐만 아니라, 신규 고객, NZ Couriers, Post Haste 같은 업체들이 우리 회사를 이용하기 시작해 전체적으로 고객들이 많아졌다. 기업 간 배송이 살아나면서 수요가 완화되기 시작할 것으로 기대한다. 사람들이 직장으로 돌아가게 된다면 이러한 기업간 거래량이 증가할 것이며 소매업, 서비스 분야의 산업이 정상적으로 돌아갈 때 쯤이면 현재의 어려움도 조금 완화될 것으로 예상하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.
