와이카토 상공회의소는 예방접종율이 대형 행사를 안전하게 운영할 수 있게 오를 때까지 올해의 비즈니스 시상식을 연기하기로 결정했다. 올해 기록적인 참가자를 끌어모은 이 연례 시상식은 11월 12일 해밀턴에서 열리는 갈라 디너에서 발표될 예정이었다.

Don Good 최고 경영자는 상공회의소 팀이 다양한 수준의 록다운 경우를 두고 갈라 디너를 어떻게 진행할 수 있는지 많은 시간을 두고 고민했다고 말했다.
“한 가지 시나리오는 가상 이벤트를 진행하는 것이었지만 사람들은 가상으로 이루어지는 것에 다소 싫증을 느낀다고 생각했다. 온라인 행사는 동료들과 함께 테이블에 앉아 느끼는 동지애, 기대, 흥분을 불러일으키지 않는다. “현 상황을 미루어 볼 때 가까운 장래에 행사를 계획하는 것은 어렵다고 판단했으며, 대신 모든 부문 수상자, 종합 수상자, 비즈니스 명예의 전당 수상자를 발표할 갈라 디너를 2022/02/09(수)로 연기하기로 결정했다”고 발표했다.
이 상은 포스터 건설 그룹의 지원을 받고 있으며, Leonard Gardner 최고 경영자는 포스터스가 와이카토 재계가 결승 진출자와 수상자들을 축하하기 위해 직접 모일 수 있을 때까지 시상식을 연기하기로 한 결정에 찬성한다면서 “공동체 의식은 사람들이 다같이 모일 때 생겨나며, 온라인에서는 제대로 이룰 수 없다”고 전했다.

Good씨는 “이제 우리는 그 어느 때보다도 많은 사람들이 완전히 예방 접종을 받는 것이 중요하다는 사실을 알게 됐다. 그렇게 된다면 2022년로 미뤄진 행사와 또 그 이후에도 이와 같은 대규모 행사를 안전하게 진행할 수 있게 될 것이다. 우리는 와이카토 비즈니스 커뮤니티가 2월에 열릴 갈라 디너에 함께 모여 우리 지역에서 훌륭한 성과를 이룬 뛰어난 사람들과 기업들을 위해 축하해주고 싶다. 뿐만 아니라 우리 지역 사회에서 예방 접종 수준에 도달한 것을 축하하고 인정할 수 있게 되기를 바란다. 모든 사업들을 개방되고 완벽하게 운영되길 바라며, 국경을 재개방해 노동 시장이 다시 활력을 얻는 것과, 경제가 다시 살아나도록 사업을 개방하고 완전히 운영해야 한다.”

수상자는 다음 만찬에서 마이크로 비즈니스, 비영리, 혁신, 비즈니스 성장 및 전략, 서비스 우수성, 지역사회 공헌, 국제 무역, 사회 및 환경 지속 가능성, 올해의 신흥 리더, 올해의 CEO, 그리고 최고상으로 나누어 선정된다. 비즈니스 명예의 전당 수상자 두 명도 발표될 예정이다.
